Bibimbap
拌 饭 bàn fàn
The food culture of Asians - particularly, the Korean food culture - has an emphasis on odd numbers. In the case of the Bibimbap 拌饭 bàn fàn, the number is 5. This Korean dish has 5 different colors and is prepared using 5 different cooking techniques to provide 5 different tastes. The portions of the dish are served in the following manner
1) raw 生 shēng
2) stir-fried 清炒 qīng chǎo
3) blanching 氽烫 tǔn tàng
4) braising 烩 huì
5) frying 煎炸 jiān zhá.
The dish is to be first savored with the eyes. Then, the portions are mixed (hence the Chinese name 拌饭 bàn fàn which is literally translated as "mixed food").
