Chinatown, Singapore

The
"Chinatown" of Singapore
is affectionately known by some as Niu Che Shui 牛车水
(literally translated as bullock carts that transport water). Once
upon a time, this area of Singapore
was chock-full of these carriers. In the Malay
language, the hub or central district of Chinatown is known as
"Kreta Ayer" (literally translated as water cart).
Other districts of the greater
Chinatown area include Tanjong
Pagar, Telok Ayer, Ann Siang
Hill and Bukit Pasoh.
Today, Chinatown is a major
tourist attraction of Singapore.
