Banpo Museum
西安半坡博物馆
The Banpo Museum 西安半坡博物馆 xī'ān bàn pō bó
wù guǎn lies on the eastern
outskirts of Xian 西安
xī ān. This museum
is an important archeological site
of the neolithic Yangshao
仰韶 yǎng sháo culture.
This site preserves a village that existed 6000
years ago. The relics found here highlight the early
civilization of the
Yangshao 仰韶
yǎng sháo people
along the Weihe River 渭河 wèi hé.
Discovered in 1953,
this neolithic site
was bordered by
* the Bahe River in the east
* the Qinling in the south
* the Bailu Plain in the southeast, and
* the Chanhe River in the west.
This museum focuses on the
⚒ dwellings
⚒ pottery making areas, and
⚒ burial plots
of the 仰韶 Yangshao yǎng sháo people.
In this fascinating site lies also the Museum of Chinese Surnames / First Names.
