Cartaphilus

According to this Christian legend, Cartaphilus was a Roman soldier and Pontius Pilate's gatekeeper. Cartaphilus struck Jesus for being tarry (slow) on his way to the crucifixion.

The famous line he said was: "Faster, Jesus, faster; why do you tarry?"
In response, Jesus said: "I go, but you shall tarry until I come again."

Thus, Cartaphilus was cursed by the Christian God to walk the
Earth until "The Second Coming of Christ". This curse earned Cartaphilus the nickname "The Wandering Jew".
