The Hmong / Miao 苗族 miáo zú is one of Laos' 49 ethnic groups. They are also one of the 56 Ethnic Groups of China (of which 26 are found in the southwestern province of 云南 Yunnan). The Miao 苗族 is one of the largest among them.

It has been said that the Hmong / Miao 苗族 miáo zú people lived in the province of Hebei (河北 hé běi), China (中国zhōng guó), between 4000 BCE and 3000 BCE. When the Han Chinese population grew, they competed with the Hmong for land. The Hmongs were driven south and southwest.

Later, during the Qing
Dynasty (1644-1911 AD), thousands of Hmongs were further driven down to Southeast Asia (Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand).

The photos below shows a Laotian Hmong who is adept at using the computer and equally adept at maneuvering the tractor.
